Mechanism of action of Megamentin 625 mg Tablet 6s:
Clavulanic acid has a high affinity and binds to certain Β-lactamases which generally inactivate lamoxicillin by hydrolyzing its Β-lactam ring. The combination of potassium clavulanate with lamoxicillin extends the antibacterial spectrum of amxicillin to include many bacteria normally resistant to amoxicillin and other penicillins and cephalosporins. Distribution: protein bonds: about 25% (clavulanic acid), About 18% (Amoxicillin). Lamoxicillin is readily distributed to most tissues and body fluids, with the exception of the brain and spinal fluid. Excretion: half-life after oral administration: 1.3 hours (amoxicillin), 1 hour (clavulanic acid). Approximately 50-70% of Amoxicillin and 25-40% of clavulanic acid are excreted unchanged in the urine during the first 6 hours after surgery.
